Merrin School Year 7 class has again scooped the prestigious Cantamath trophy for that age group.
It's the third time the school has won the Year 7 trophy and teacher Shane Barr said it's a remarkable achievement.
"As a full primary competing against larger intermediates and private schools we like to think this win challenges a perception that these schools offer a more challenging programme."
More than 200 teams from as far afield as Timaru and Greymouth contested this sought after trophy and its Year 8 equivalent earlier this week. This is the 40th year of the competition and Barr said that as always it was an exciting and vibrant event with parents and supporters cheering the contestants on loudly.

How did the world began

There are many story's told about how the world was made. The most common legend is called Evolution, when monkeys turned into men. This may be true but how do we know but that's only about mankind. What about the earth what, about the universe, Was there a big bang in a white space made out of nothing, was there a god that created everything, The big question is how and why was the universe made. When I was 3 I thought how was the earth made, how does the earth float but tonight I wonder how the universe was made.
