The Quake strikes again!

On the 22nd of February, Canterbury suffered a 6.3 magnitue earthquake. It knock down lots
of important buildings to Christchurch as well as homes to several New Zealanders in Canterbury. Schools are close for nearly 3 weeks and when it had reopened other schools came in.

When the earthquake happened I was at Phone Duty with Emma and Georgina. We were all laughing at how Georgina were doing the dances from a book Emma got from the library. But them suddenly all the light went out and all is left was the sunlight outside the windows. Georgina started to ask " Who turn of the lights?" but nobody answered and there was silent for a few second...then it was when the earthquake hit us!!

Emma jumped up and ran for the door as Georgina follows her. I stood there shocked and didn't know what to do!! Then I heard Emma and Georgina shouting for me. I ran to them and tried not to scream. But Georgina started screaming BUT not because of the earthquake but because Emma had stood on her foot. Mrs Jeffery told us to calm down but none of us could!

After the shacking had stopped we all came out of the door frame, Mrs Jeffery told us to stay in the office and stay calm as she rushes of outside. That's when we were left alone, we didn't know what to do so I suggested we go outside and see what all the others were doing. As we went outside we saw all the students were all going to the field so we followed and saw that nearly the whole school is sitting on the Field chatting about the earthquake that had just happened.

When the Whole school was there the teachers started taking the roll checking every student at Merrin School was all here and when their done the teachers take us back in to the class room to take the stuff we need. Mr Bar told us to take the book "Artimis Fowl" with us but as well i took another book with me but i left my jacket on my hook and it was getting abit windy.

Few minutes later Parents of each child started to show up. They were all coming to take their child home. Some of the children even started crying when they saw there parents and finally my aunt showed up to pick me and my brother up but we also took Emma and her brother and my brothers friend Jonathan to our house too.

Soon Jonathan's mum came and took him home and left Emma and her brother at our house, Emma tried several times contacting her dad but the cell phones didn't work. So we rang Georgina and see if she and her family was ok. Then Emma's parents finally came to pick them up. So now it only me and my family! We turned on the radio and listen to the updates on the earthquake and found out that the buildings had came down and as well as people trap under the buildings!

This earthquake took lots of innocent peoples life away as well as the central towns old churchs. But I'm sure soon we can rebuilt Christchurch and make it a better place for everyone!!

  2. Well done, great draft - it's well structured and you varied your sentence beginnings. Now you know what the 'post' button does! (We can fix it later).

  7. This is much better after the edit, Michelle. You need to focus on using a consistent tense e.g. turned instead of turn, was instead of were (was is for a single subject), trapped instead of trap etc. Try adding 'ed' to verbs to turn them into past tense.
